Solid shampoo bar
An estimated 500 million plastic shampoo bottles are disposed of in the UK every year. If you're looking for ways to make plastic free swaps in your bathroom, these concentrated and gently cleansing solid shampoo bars are a great option.
Solid shampoo bars are NOT regular bars of cold process soap with the word "shampoo" slapped onto them, as cold process soap is too alkaline for the delicate mantle of the scalp. Rather, these bars are formulated with naturally derived surfectants (short for surface active agents), which latch onto dirt and carry it away in a gorgeous foamy lather. Unlike many commonly used commercial surfectants, like SLS (Sodium laurel sulfate), which can be harsh on the skin, I select only nature/plant derived ingredients including SLSa, or Sodium laurel sulfoacetate, derived from coconuts. These shampoo bars also contain D Panthenol, glycerine, sodium lactate and cocoa butter, to attract moisture and add strength. All ingredients used in these bars are COSMOS and/or ECOCERT approved. Each bar comes wrapped in a natural, biodegradable cotton drawstring bag which is packaged in a plastic free, recyclable aluminium tin. Please note tins can be recycled at home, or dropped off at our farm shop at Bruern Farms, OX7 6QE, for recycling. You also have the option to order a refill bar without a tin, at a lower price.
Solid shampoo bars are highly concentrated, too, meaning they'll last a long time. PLEASE NOTE: to ensure the longest life of your shampoo bar, keep it dry between uses, ideally in a soap dish with drainage. I have thick, shoulder length hair, which I wash about twice a week, and one of these bars lasts me about three months. Each bar is approximately 75 g.
